Crocus

A spring blooming species from the Balkans and Greece, yellow-throated bluish-mauve flowers with darker petal tips, an easy, and rewarding Crocus, producing an almost tricolor effect.

The prototype spring crocus, this subspecies occurs from Italy eastwards (they have now lumped heufflianus here as well), purple flowered; its the parent of most of the Dutch hybrids.
