Paeonia suffruticosa

The Tree Peonies, a Chinese native and commonly referred to as Paeonia moutan, it is actually classified as a deciduous sub-shrub. Those are not what you see in garden centers, the grafted plants produced for mass-market. I prefer the single flowers of P. suffruticosa especially Paeonia suffruticosa rockii. They grow about 4-5' tall here in Michigan, are fully hardy and even survived our two "Winters from Hell", flowering like mad the following spring. Best of all you can grow them even in a slightly shaded part in the garden and still enjoy their flowers. All that are offered here are seedlings from our plants in the garden and will vary some from the seed-parent (the picture by each variety offered) but should be pretty close. Those are pot grown and we can ship them anytime.
